By the end of grade 10, students will have completed 16 of 18 compulsory courses required by the Ministry of Education for graduation purposes. These courses will be taught at a level that will enable students to achieve CANADIAN DIPLOMA standards as well as begin their preparation for the Advanced Placement exams in years three and four. Successful completion of these exams allows students to gain university credits concurrently with the completion of grade twelve credits.
Grades 9 and 10
Grades nine (9) and ten (10) make up the last two years of the intermediate curriculum in the Manitoba Ministry of Education’s requirements for the Manitoba Secondary Graduation Diploma. These years, with their largely compulsory subjects, provide the skill and content base for specialization in the senior division. The school will also offer art in grade nine to fulfill the arts credit followed by courses in drama and art in subsequent years.
At Canadian Independent College of Ghana we believe that these years are more than just academic precursors; they offer a set of life experiences for our students. We have created a school that integrates the requirements of the CANADIAN DIPLOMA with the whole person, incorporating social, cultural, recreational, emotional, and intellectual skills that will serve the student throughout his or her life.
Grades 11, 12/ Pre University
Canadian Independent College of Ghana offers preparatory courses for University to students in Grades 11 and 12. These courses are designed to aid the students to gain the knowledge base and skills they need to meet the entrance requirements for University or College Programmes. Emphasis is placed on the theoretical aspects of the course content, as well as concrete applications.
By the end of the Grade 12 year, students will have been able to get the 30 credits required. Coupled with the completion of 40 hours of community involvement, and successfully passing the required Manitoba Secondary School Provincial test, students will be qualified for the Manitoba Secondary School Diploma (CANADIAN DIPLOMA) awarded by the Manitoba Ministry of Education. Students who have completed a CANADIAN DIPLOMA with at least eight (8) acceptable prerequisite credits at the (Pre – University courses) are eligible for direct admission to universities or colleges in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, the United Kingdom, and many other international post secondary institutions.
